Vanishing Core is the first boss of the Gradius IV Boss Rush. Despite it's name, it doesn't actually vanish. It uses search lights to find the player, then it launches missiles at a rapid rate. It starts off by moving the lights (There are 4 of these) around as the ship moves up and down, searching for the player (Lights are blue at the start, turn yellow if you are near, and red if you are spotted) while sometimes using a 4 way laser blast (this is rare) and launching seeking missiles sometimes. Then it goes to the center of the screen and spins the searchlights around. It is highly vulnerable during this attack, as the center does not include the lights. Not a very difficult boss if you can avoid the lights.
